One of the greatest directors of the French New Wave, Godard continues to influence the bold styles of contemporary American directors such as Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino. Godard also expressed his love of "all things American" in many of his films, where the tragic gangster "anti-hero," borrowed from American film noir, plays a major role.
